Kara KoesterKara Koester

Business Consultant

Prior to joining Galleria I spent 7 years in the manufacturing community. The first 5 with Frito-Lay and most recently with ConAgra Foods as category manager for the Hannaford account. In July 2008 I decided to switch gears and joined the Galleria team as a Business Consultant.

I still work closely with retail clients, and am based in Portsmouth New Hampshire. My family and I are fortunate to be just a few miles from the ocean and about an hour from major cities such as Boston and Portland. We love the New England area and even enjoy the snow!

As a Business Consultant I work closely with the Galleria project manager in order to build a strong relationship between Galleria and our clients. I act as the business liaison between our company and the client, promoting the software and services that we provide. In my short time with the company, I have had the opportunity to challenge myself and integrate my background skills into this business. I have been extremely lucky to have had the help and expertise of my consultancy team. I look forward to broadening my skills and evolving as a consultant as well as learning all that I can about our software and its capabilities.

Senior Technical Architect

I have spent the duration of my career in software development, working for various independent software houses developing games and gaming utilities. I then moved to NSIS, the company which Jef Richards, our Chief Strategy and Research Officer, started when he graduated. While here I made the transition to developing business software.

I joined Jef at Galleria in 1998 as a developer, and was jointly responsible for the development of early Galleria products such as Market Profiler and GalaXXi. I later became a Technical Architect, and since that time have played an integral role in the development of Galleria solutions. I am a part of the technical architecture group, which is responsible for technical design, reviewing new technologies and products to see if they can be leveraged to bring benefit to Galleria. Most recently I was a part of the team which saw the transition of our software to the Microsoft .NET platform and spent a number of weeks at Microsoft’s scalability labs in Seattle. This aspect of my role, being able to input into Galleria’s technical evolution, is what I find most rewarding.

I think I will always remain in a hands-on role with technology rather than moving to management. Right now I’m in the role that is best suited for me, but that doesn’t mean I can rest on my laurels. I’m a great believer in personal development and will continue to develop my skills through self study and real world experience.

Support Developer

This is my first position since graduating from Chester University with a degree in Computer Science. Under the guidance of a team leader and mentor, I work in the Support team at Galleria, based at the UK head office. We are responsible for investigating and correcting any issues within Galleria’s software solutions.

This position is a great fit for me. My degree course gave me the core skills and experience to allow me to build my career in software development. Though I’m based at Galleria HQ, as a support developer, you may be asked to attend a client site to provide user support or investigate issues, working closely with the client’s own team of IT staff and end-users. In the support department we are required to work on a shift rota, to cover the working hours of our international clients, which is something that I personally enjoy. It gives you the chance to pursue other interests out of work that you would not normally be able to do working a regular 9-5.

I really enjoy my role here; working to deadlines brings excitement, there are challenges every day and no two days are ever the same.
